An Interesting Preseason

Matt Moore Written by Matt Moore Wednesday September 01 2010

Heading into our final preseason game on Thursday, I think the plan is for me to play some, but I don’t know how much. I’m preparing to play a lot, but it will be up to Coach Fox how much I’m in there.

It’s been an interesting preseason, now we’re just looking forward to getting to the regular season. We’ve been trying some things on offense and waiting for some key players to get healthy, so we’re looking forward to putting the preseason behind us and getting to the games that count, when we have all our guys in there and can get rolling.

The preseason is just that, the preseason. Everybody has been talking and writing things like it’s December, and it’s still August. Do we have things to improve on? Absolutely. But at this point we’re still 0-0 and looking forward to a good showing in Week 1.

We are young offensively and I think we were put in a lot of tough situations in the preseason. Guys can learn from both good and bad things, so we have a lot to learn from and turn to our advantage heading into the regular season.

That’s what preseason is for, to get experience and get ready and work on the things we need to work on. Find your weaknesses and work on them. That’s what we’ve been doing and we feel real good, not only heading into the final preseason game, but also the following week up in New York.

These sound like excuses and they kind of are, but they’re also the facts. We’ve missed two of our three biggest playmakers in Smitty and J-Stew. I’m looking forward to getting those guys back, as well as Jeff Otah at tackle, another key part we need in the lineup.

In the regular season we’ll be spending a lot more time game-planning for the team we’re playing, so that also will be beneficial for us.

I think the lack of points we have scored in the preseason is not a true reflection of how the preseason has gone for the offense. We tried a lot of different things. I think our true offensive style will show through during the regular season and hopefully result in a lot of points.

A lot of people have wondered if I feel pressure to keep the starting job. I don’t. There are always thoughts and feelings in your mind, but I don’t feel that pressure. You can’t play the game that way, you have to be as upbeat and positive as you can. You definitely know that there are going to be growing pains along the way, and you know you have to minimize them, put them aside and win ballgames.

There’s little room in this game to feel pressure. I like to think that I don’t feel it at all.

While you’re here, I would like to mention the beverage company that I am a part of, Spartos. I drink Spartos protein water every day, it’s like a little shot of protein every time you drink it and it doesn’t fill you up like a protein shake. And it tastes great. So if you have a minute, check out www.spartos.com. Thanks!

Well, now I've just heard about you being placed on IR. Fuck... I can stick with the panthers going 1-6 to 1-7 -- it's not as much about the team as it is the individual talent on the field. But now you're off the field... guess it's the time of the season for me to jump on the Philly bandwagon. Hope you can get rest, heal, and get back on the field so we can stick it to the Falcons :)

Matt - Nothing new on the site, which is discouraging :( The season is shot to Hell, the injuries are preventing consistency, and... let's just stop there. Despite all that, I have great respect for you. Every week, against the Giants O-Line or against the Saints, you've stood in the pocket and made throws. That is an AMAZING feat, and it takes quite a mind to put up with it every week. All of the ill news, all of the talk... despite it all, you've still been an amazing quarterback! I just want to give you a bit of praise, and hope you can come out of this strong. I want you in Carolina next year, no matter what coach we have. Good luck next game :)

Don't sweat it Matt. September 13th nobody will remember or care what happened in a practice game.
